Goings On with Big Deahl Tavern

"WOW" Yosemite

Took a trip to Yosemite with the camping crew ( Chris, Simon,Maddison, Katie, Phil, Phil Jr., DanCo, Danna, Laura Chelbi, and myself) The drive took 5 hours had a flat on Phils trailer and had GREAT scenery.
Set up the trailers in the Yosemite Ridge Resort, a little run down but usable and the up side no one else there but renters. Had dinner and drinks and most went to bed early. The next morning went into the park the weather was fantastics. Stopped at a turnout and got pics of Half Dome, and El Capitian. The views got better and better the farther you go. Stopped at Bridel Veil Falls, the water was running full and the view was great. Walked up into the spray and took pics.
Drove through the valley and got video of Yosemite falls and Half Dome. Parked the vehicles and ate lunch. After lunch we took a bus up to the trail head of Vernal Falls. The hike was about 1.5 miles to the bridge, it was steep and had to stop and get your breath, but the reward was a great view of the falls. Simon, Chris, Maddson, Laura, Chelbi, Myself continued on towards the top of the falls. Laura and myself stopped at the base of the falls, Chris, Simon, and Maddson went to the top. After resting and talking how "WOW" the view was we started back to the bottom. We then took the bus back to the parking lot and drove back to camp.
Katie cooked spaghetti and Laura made at toast to are friends and Yosemite, after she was done DanCo informed use the He and Danna were engaged. This caught all of us by surprise and his sister Katie was shocked (he kept it a secret for a week)! We are all very HAPPY for them. After dinner we set around and talked and still pondering the views at Yosemite and the BIG announcement.
The next day we drove into the park and went up to Glacier Point and stopped at another viewing spot, this view blow us away you could see Half Dome, Vernal Falls and Nevada Falls all in one spot. This put the enormity of the part into view. The bridge and falls  we had hiked to seamed minuscule as you can see about 1/4 of the part from here. The panorama view is spectacular. We drove to Glacier Point and you stand on a view point that is 3200 feet above the valley floor. It is an awesome view. Yosemite Falls and the area we drove through puts into perspective the size of the glacier that scalped this area. Their is a trail that is 4.4 miles that goes from Glacier Point the valley floor. The guide book say it is very strenuous hike, Simon says the path is a rope straight down.
The next day we packed up and drove home and took Sonora Pass road Katie and Chris commented that it was almost as beutiful as Yosemite and as we drove the grade got steeper and steeper. At one point my truck asmost stalled climing to the summit and if that was not enuf the other side was that steep going down and you had to try to keep your breaks cooled off.
All and all this is the best trip I have ever been on.
We will in two weeks continue camping in Feather River. This will be are 9th year campin in Feather River RV park.
HAPPY CAMPING!!!!

EMMCOMM West

Spent this last weekend (May 3-4 2008) at the Ham (amateur radio) EMMCOMM (emergency communication) convention with DanCo, Danna, Laura and myself.  Met other HAMS from around the area including, Alaska, California and Nevada.
Went to seminars about working in EOC (emergency operation centers) and what their is to do when you become a HAM. DanCo gave a great presentation on what equipment is needed in a GO KIT. This is the equipment needed when a disaster strikes.
